Amon Carter Museum

An exciting new development in the world of art: the world famous Amon Carter Museum has acquired the painting “Conversation-Sky and Earth” by Charles Sheeler. This painting, painted in 1940, is considered one of the major works of American art. It was part of a commissioned series from the Ford Motor Company, which would then become a foundation for some of Sheeler’s later works. These photos were created with the goal of helping to promoate America’s industrial power at home and around the world.

Sheeler, an artist who was based in Philadelphia, primarily lived off his earnings as a commercial photographer. Although his photography was better regarded at the time than his paintings, in retrospect art historians have begun to realize that Sheeler was one of the most important American painters of his generation.
